Elagabalus, 218-222. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.99 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in the East, 218-219. ANTONINVS PIVS FEL AVG Laureate and draped bust of Elagabalus to right, seen from behind. Rev. HILARITAS AVG Hilaritas standing front, head to left, holding patera in her right hand and palm frond in her left; at her feet, two nude children standing right and left, reaching up to her. BMC 281. Cohen -, cf. 54 (bust draped and cuirassed). RIC 190. Thirion 352. Lustrous and with mirror-like surfaces, an exceptional piece. Light die wear on the obverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
